Sadie was an angel (literally) in the performance of Cinderella at the Dean Lesher Center for the Arts 6/28/2004 and 6/29/2004. She had a great time and did wonderfully.
Here are some pictures we took - sorry the quality of her on stage is poor, they wouldn't let us use the flash - I did my best at holding the camera still. |

I like online music. I have almost completly abandoned my MP3 collection (11,000) songs ripped from CDs. Having access to hundreds of thousands to millions of songs instantly has really got me spoiled. I haven't purchased a CD in over a year - since I have been using Real Rhapsody. Until recently I been happy with them, recommended to friends, etc. But alas, frequent server outages, application problems, REALLY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, etc. have made me go looking for something new. But I am starting to think that the service I want doesn't exist. |

When I purchased my Thinkpad A20P, I had no idea that it could support DualView or desktop extending. I first found out the video card could do it when I installed Linux on my machine - I purchased some drivers from www.xig.com - they worked wonderfully and I could extend my Xwindows desktop onto two monitors - that kept me running Linux on my Thinkpad for a long time because as far as I knew it couldn't be done in Windows. |

TiVo Drive Upgrade |

I had a hard drive failing our DirecTiVo - freezing video, slow play, fast play, etc. The unit was well out of warranty, DirecTV suggested replacing the unit all together. I thought I would tinker with the TiVO a little to see if I could fix it before throwing it away and getting another. I first tried to fix the drive using SpinRite. SpinRite couldn't recover the failed portions of the drive. I did a little research into what to do and found very detailed instructions on how to do this in the Hinsdale howto. Even though Maxtor is not recommended by a lot of people, I grabbed an old 80GB Maxotr hardrive and copied the TiVo drive onto it, put it in the TiVo and it worked. Wow! I added 73 hours +/- to the TiVO! |

OK, lately I have been having a really fun time with setting up a video jukebox so that we can watch any of our movies on demand. We are taking DVDs and turning them into files the computer can read (and compressing them).
One of the first things you need to do is start "backing up" your DVDs into computer-readable files. I have had really good luck using the method described later in this post. You do have to have a DVD reader and a computer that is capable of playing back these movies. We have good luck with playback on the kid's computers (PIII 700Mhz).
The free tools I am using are DVD Decrypter and AutoGK (both supported by donations). Here are the links - get and install the software and follow the instructions that follow:
